About BWF

Bougainville Women’s Federation was formed in 2008 following the Hutjena Accord of 2006 for all women of Bougainville to unite into an ‘umbrella organisation’. Women are ‘part & parcel’ of the implementation of the Bougainville Peace Agreement.
The Division of Community Development was tasked with assisting the women to set up in accordance with the Autonomous Bougainville Government’s arrangements that the Federation be recognised as an autonomous organization working in partnership with other CBOs, NGOs, churches and the ABG.

BWF also has the AROB responsibility and mandate to work in partnership with PNG National Council of Women and International Organisations.

BWF has constructed a building beside the market in Buka Town, housing a permanent office and meeting spaces which can be made available for hire. The building was officially opened by Natasha Stott Despoja, Ambassador for Women and Girls, on 10 February 2016.
